Recommended Plugins

Shibboleth

The shibboleth plugin allows your users to log in with their Illinois.Edu NetID and password. Once the configuration has been tested and confirmed to work, we further recommend choosing the option to “Disable local WordPress logins.” This will prevent attackers from gaining access to your site by brute force password guessing.

Password Policy Manager

Password policy manager is recommended for all sites, but especially site that choose to leave “Disable local WordPress logins” unchecked in the Shibboleth plugin, for example, if you have frequent contributors who do not have Illinois.Edu credentials.

Simple History

Highly recommended for all Mission Critical WordPress sites, Simple History logs changes made to your site (adding a plugin, deleting a plugin, creating a user, etc) along with the date/time and user who made the changes. This can be useful in troubleshooting problems with a site, as well as for tracking down how malicious actors gained access to a site in the case of a compromise.

Duplicate Page

A quality of life plugin that retains the page settings like parent page, sidebar settings, etc, and also retains content. Useful if you wish to create a page template that can be easily filled in with new content.

Media File Renamer

A quality of life plugin that allows you to rename files in your media library after they have been uploaded making it easier to find and organize media files.

Content Views

If you have a need to display groups of content in configurable grids, lists, or galleries with or without custom fields, content views provides that functionality.

Enable Media Replace

Another quality of life plugin, especially useful if you are working on perfecting your image sizes/resolutions and need to re-upload edited media files. With this plugin you can simply upload a new copy of the file with the same name, instead of having to delete the existing file or use a different file name (and also potentially the need to update content that is already referring to the media item)
